The story begins in the city of Pi-Ramesses, in Egypt, around the year 1,300 B.C.E., when the powerful Pharaoh Seti I orders the murder of all male newborns. A Hebrew couple, Amram and Jochebed, defy Pharaoh's order and hide his son in a basket floating down the Nile River, trusting that God will take him to a safe place. The basket carries the baby into the hands of Princess Henutmira, who is moved by the image of the orphaned child and decides to adopt him. Moses is raised as a true Egyptian prince along with his uncle Ramses and the beautiful Nefertari. Later, Moses, after a series of events, is chosen by God to free his people from slavery.
